In this Assignment we were tasked with pinging a website to understand how it works and the reason you might do so, along with a trace route as well. It was a fun activity that we did and I have used it in the past to help provide insight into problems I had.
My first ping www.google.com
Second Ping was www.bookwalker.jp,a site to read and purchase manga. This was one that I could not get through to. My pings were sent out and lost along the way.
Third ping was a site I like to visit www.slashfilm.com a blog site about films and tv.
I did a fourth ping since one of them failed. This was to www.newzealand.com
The first tracer was www.google.com
It managed to go through without any hops being timed out.
the second tracer I did was www.slashfilm.com
The thing that was odd to me, the fact that it timed out so many times and finally finished after seven attempts.
Third tracer was www.newzealand.com
only three requests timed out.
Fourth tracer was to see what would happen if I used www.bookwalker.jp
I was hoping for a little while and then it because to far to reach and couldn't make the distance.
I have my computer hardwired to my own router that is hooked up to spectrum internet. I live in Maine so I wanted to see how both New Zealand, and Japan would work when I am so far away. its nice to know that both had issues but only one went through to finish.
I have actually used pinging to find out issues with different things with games I was playing like league of legends, I had issues with my ping in game. So I would ping from my system to theirs to check the rate to how the in-game rate was. For some reason I always thought there was an issue somewhere along the line. What was later found out is that the internet service that I was using Spectrum/Time Warner Cable was throttling game services, and streaming services. (Jeffrey, 2018). I learned how to do this back in high school in my computer tech class I was taking. From what I learned a ping is when two devices communicate between one another. The amount of bites sent, time it took to send it, and time-to-live which refers to the amount of time the data stays in the network. I had never done a trace route of any kind before, so it was really nice to see how it works and operates. The idea of seeing what problems you might have with different sites and identifying it through pinging or trace route. I believe why I had the issue with it timing out was because of the distance and the connection problem that might be associated with it.
